This salon is simply amazing! I've sworn off of salons for years. My last salon visit was at a Dominican place in Harlem, where they barely understood English and were determined to get my afro textured hair as bone straight as possible. The aftermath of the excessive heat they used left me with severe split ends and almost heat damaged hair! I chopped off 2 inches smh
Upon my arrival, my husband and I had to complete a short form which asked about our hair management techniques and what we wanted that day. I wanted the 2 strand twist ($85+) and he wanted his locks twisted ($90+ for palm twist; $150+ for interlock). What the cost includes: hair wash, scalp scrub (felt like I was in a hair spa, it was wonderful, my scalp was in heaven), deep condition with steam treatment, air dry, then style with their natural products. They trimmed my hair, I needed it badly but they didn't inform me ahead of time that it was gonna be done. This came with an additional charge of $20 (shaping fee). So be careful to be upfront if you didn't come with enough money to cover all the added expenses. They take card in case you didn't come with enough cash. Be mindful, the card payment machine has a 4% upcharge. My hair looked good but my pockets were hurting as the total bill for me and my husband with tax and tip came to $297.
My first time getting my granddaughter hair done. Love this place. Friendly, polite and clean. Awsome service. Very much pleased.
The ambiance of the shop is very welcoming. The hairstylist were pleasant and polite. I met Kyra and Alicia during my visit. They are both beautiful, strong women of color. They require the use of their homemade hair care products which is now on market for sale. The ingredients are pronounceable and made with the natural hair in mind.
This is a great salon and the owner Alicia is more than happy to share her knowledge on hair care and answer any questions her clients might ask. I have been a customer for at least 3 years and I don't let anyone else touch my hair. I love this salon!!
Thanks to a very good friend of mine who kept pushing for me to go to Nubian Hair Studio! She kept insisting I go to get my hair treated to get it healthy again. I went last week and I was impressed. They greeted me warmly and were very nice, as well as professional. I appreciated the fact that they explained to me why they were using certain products on my hair. They even asked if I had any issues with my hair/scalp and offered me some tips on how to fix them. I got my hair washed, deep conditioned, blown out and trimmed. When she finished blowing it out I was shocked because I had no idea I had that much hair AND she was very meticulous about using heat protectant!! Overall, I'm happy I caved in and went to them. I think I just may be hooked! I highly recommend them!
As for my husband we asked for the palm twist as it was cheaper. The stylist wanted to show us the interlock technique which was interesting, less messy and only required a Bobby pin. Unfortunately she forgot to stop and revert back to palm twist so we was charged for the interlock.
These are experts in the field of black natural hair care! These stylist pay great attention to the needs of their customers. Among my best experiences at a hair salon for sure!
They scheduled us for a 6 week return for my husband, palm twist (I'll make sure this happens next time lol) and 3 weeks for myself. They have a professional setup. I love the fact that they treat the hair and teach you how to treat your own grade of hair. They are far from the Dominican hair salons (wam bam thank you mam). You will get your hair and scalp treated. Enjoyed the experience. Looking forward to my next appointment with the rod Queen Kyra.
